Why Royal Rugs?
Gyurme and his dad Kalsang Choewang, making Rug is not a profession, it is TRADITION. Gyurme grew up in a rug family helping his dad while going to high school in Kathmandu, Nepal. He is a second generation rug producer.
Gyurme's dad, Kalsang Choewang, is one of the pioneer in establishing Rug Industry in Kathmandu, Nepal. Mr. Kalsang, 78, was trained as a first Rug designer in Nepal for Red Cross operating carpet factory for Tibetan Refugees in Kathmandu, Nepal.
Making carpets has been tradition passed on from generation to generation. it was Gyurme's dad who chose to be rug producer. Here in this National geography Magazine, world famous photographer Steve McCurry, took picture of my dad in the factory. It was published in April 2002 Issue.

Our Process
We source 100% highland wool—the rarest and most durable wool—from Tibet. Craftsmen hand dye the wool in small quantities to ensure proper color absorption. Our weavers hand knot the wool to weave rugs of unparalleled beauty.
